Yapen
Morelia viridis
This is an insular form from the island Yapen which is
close to Biak. These animals share a lot of characteristics
with biaks they generally attain a larger adult size than
other localities and have the same large elongated heads as
biaks and usually bad tempered.
Generally known as dark green animals with lots of
clusters of white scales scattered randomly all over the
body, but this is not typical as the amount of white
blotches can differ in each animal and sometimes can be
totally absent the overal bodycolor ranges from deep green
to really dark green and can have some yellow. Extremely
rare is the orange colormorph, the pair i own is close to 4
years old and both have retained over 70% orange coloration
of the overal body color. Juveniles start there color change
usually at one year and this can continue well into their
fourth year of age.
